Online travel agency MakeMyTrip has taken five similar companies to court for using names ‘inspired’ by their’s, an Economic Times report said.
MakeMyYatra, MakeMyJourney, Make My Happy Journey, Pick My Trip and Superb My Trip are the five companies MakeMyTrip has taken to court for allegedly copying its name.
The company alleges that these five firms have not only taken its name, some have even copied the MakeMyTrip logo.
The ET reports suggests that MakeMyTrip's petition in Delhi High Court says that it spent about 46 percent of its revenue (Rs 1,264 Crore) on advertising and marketing in FY 2017-18.
"Till further orders, the defendant, its partner, directors, shareholders or proprietors as the case may be, its assigns in business, franchisees, affiliates, subsidiaries, licencees and agents are restrained from using in manner whatsoever, selling, offering for sale, advertising directly or indirectly dealing in any products or services under the infringing marks, namely PickMyTrip (word per se)," the ET report quoted the court's interim order from 31 October.
MakeMyYatra was also served with a similar order on 5 December.
A MakeMyTrip spokesperson told ET, in an emailed statement that such proceedings safeguard the legal rights of the company so that no one infringes on MakeMyTrip's brand name or uses decetively similar logo.
