Motorola is set for another overhaul and, this time, the brand is dying forever. Yes, you heard that right, but before you jump in despair, you need to understand that ever since Lenovo decided to buy the brand, this day was bound to come one day or the other.
In markets like India and the US, people have become accustomed to calling the Motorola phones as ‘Moto’ which seems to have been taken rather seriously by Lenovo. So, from here on, it’s time to say bye-bye to Motorola and say hello to ‘Moto by Lenovo’. Sounds weird, doesn’t it?
There’s no official word on the change, but if we consider this CNET report, then we could hear from the brands in the coming weeks.
The decision to cull brand Motorola in favour of Moto by Lenovo could have been suggested after having a situation wherein both brands: Motorola and Lenovo are selling phones, in markets like India and are looking to expand their base in the US with Lenovo’s Vibe series.
The popularity of ‘Moto’ branding could play into their hands, however, it would be stupid on Lenovo’s part to get rid of the Motorola heritage, much akin to how Microsoft decided to chop Nokia from its line-up and going ahead with Lumia for the future.
