JioPhone by Reliance could soon be running the famous messaging application WhatsApp.

According to WEBetainfo, a fan site which is considered to be a reliable source on everything that WhatsApp is up to, reported that “WhatsApp is working to develop a compatible app for a new platform: KaiOS!”

WEBetainfo’s website also states that a native KiaOS app has been seen in the latest WhatsApp beta for Windows Phones.

"We remember WhatsApp will stop to support Nokia S40 on next 31 December, leaving the Symbian platform, but KaiOS will be supported instead," the website added.

KiaOS is a Linux based operating system which is a very light and doesn’t need heavy hardware to operate. It’s a perfect partner for feature phones as it offers support for phones that do not come with a touch screen. It’s currently running on many feature phones including the JioPhone, and also the Nokia 8110 4G.

Only recently, KaiOS introduced support for Facebook which supports push notifications, video, and links to external content. The app is also optimised to successfully accommodate the cursor function on JioPhone, which is running on KaiOS platform.

Biggies like Twitter and Google have already partnered with KaiOS to offer support for the Google Assistant, Twitter and many other features.

There hasn’t been any official announcement about the roll out, but KiaOS Technologies did mention at the Mobile World Congress 2018 that they were closely working with many tech firms, such as Facebook, to offer more app support for feature phones running on KaiOS.

Since the announcement, the Facebook app has made it to KaiOS, so I don’t think we’ll have to wait too long for WhatsApp to be compatible with feature phones running on KaiOS.

Well, looks like its something for the JioPhone owners to be happy about.
