WhatsApp and YouTube were expected to launch on JioPhone this week but things haven’t exactly panned out that way. The popular messaging app, as informed by Reliance Jio will be soon making its way to the 4G feature phone.

While YouTube has been made available via JioStore, not all of them will be able to download the app straight away. Jio confirmed to us that the app roll out will happen gradually, and users can access it from JioStore after a software update is rolled out in the coming days.

Both the popular apps were demoed to us few weeks back and Jio promised that all features from the regular app will be available to JioPhone users during the launch.

We tried looking out for the software update, and even the JioStore for the YouTube app but Jio assured us that the gradual rollout will hit most JioPhone users in the coming days.

As for WhatsApp, the company hasn’t given a reason behind the delay in its launch but most likely there are some last-minute improvements needed for the app to function like the regular app.

YouTube content can be viewed via the app which has been designed in a web browser version. You can search, discover content (using the phone’s joystick) and play video in full-screen mode as well. On WhatsApp, you can do all the basic things like send and share videos, reply to a chat, create groups and even send a voice note by creating one.

JioPhone already has apps like Hotstar, Bookmyshow, Google Maps and even Google Assistant.
