Ever since Jio made the announcement of its feature phone coming to the Indian market very soon, many other Indian smartphone makers have suddenly woken up and are pushing out feature phones of their own which support 4G.
Brands like Lava and Micromax already have a firm hold on the feature phone market in India, but there is another brand grabbing the headlines now in this segment. The Intex Turbo+ 4G looks like a fierce competitor in this segment.
As people are calling the Jio Phone the ‘next big thing’ in feature phones, does Intex have what it takes to take on the might of Jio? Since the phones are not out yet, we will have a specs to specs comparison of the Jio Phone versus the Intex Turbo+ 4G.
Display & Design
Colour displays on feature phones are rare, but both our contenders are offering the same in this segment. The JioPhone comes with a 2.4-inch QVGA (Quarter Video Graphics Array) colour display, which is sufficient for basic internet browsing and watching videos.
The Intex Turbo+ 4G also sports the same display, so there nothing to separate the two here. The design and ergonomics is something we are unaware of as the devices haven’t been launched in the market yet so we’ll reserve our verdict on the design for later.
Processor & Storage
For the ones looking for extreme power and bulk storage capacity, you are better off hunting in the smartphone segment. Over here you will only get the basic.
The JioPhone runs on a dual-core 1.2GHz processor touted to be powered by Qualcomm or Spreadtrum, whereas the Turbo+ is also powered by a dual-core processor with the same power, but no clarity on which company has manufactured the chipset.
While the JioPhone is confirmed to be running on an operating system called KaiOS, Intex has yet to confirm the OS running on its version of the 4G feature phone. However, both run on the same 512MB of RAM.
Intex confirmed it is in talks with a few leading OS developers for its 4G feature phone right now
Storage is also limited on both these phone, but then again, you can’t ask for more. The JioPhone and Turbo+ come with 4GB of internal storage which is expandable via microSD card.

Camera & Battery
The JioPhone sports a 3-megapixel rear camera while the Intex Turbo+ 4G comes with a 2-megapixel rear camera. What the Turbo+ lacks in megapixels, it compensates with a front camera at 0.3-megapixels.
We really can’t say anything on the quality right now, but as soon as we get our hands on the phone, we’ll test out the camera. The Turbo+ sports a 2000mAh battery and there is no information as to what battery capacity the JioPhone will come with.
JioPhone > Turbo+ 4G
The Intex Turbo+ 4G has been introduced at a price tag of Rs 1500 while the Reliance JioPhone is effectively ‘free’. The Rs 1500 you invest in buying the JioPhone can be refunded after 3 years, which makes the phone worth Rs 0 and definitely a better bargain in this shootout.
Also, apart from the conventional, there are more features that both the JioPhone offers. It comes NFC for digital payments, voice commands and Jio TV features while there aren’t any special features reported yet on the new Intex feature phone.
