The JioPhone is finally out!
Whoa Whoa... hold on!! Before you head to the nearest Jio Store, let’s make one thing clear. Yes, it is out, but only available to a select number of users (presumably Jio employees).
These are the phones that have been made available for beta testing, and word is that the tests will be done using Jio SIMs. In 2016 as well, Jio had a beta test for their Jio SIMs for which Jio employees were chosen.
The jio Phone carries an “effective” price tag of Rs 0 and will be available for pre-booking from 24 August. A deposit of Rs 1,500 needs to be made to get the phone, and the same amount is fully refundable after 3 years (if you return the phone).

This is an important phase of testing for Jio as their device is not a conventional feature phone. Jio wants to make sure that the device is ready to cater to the daily use of the consumer before it’s finally launched.
The delivery of the phone will take place on ‘first come, first serve’ basis. Reliance Chairman, Mukesh Ambani had also announced that Jio is looking to bring 5 million phones to the market a week.
