Reliance Jio has retained the top spot as the fastest telecom operator in India in terms of average download speeds with a reading of 20.8 Mbps in February, according to the latest data provided by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
Incumbent telecom operators didn't have presentable results in terms of average download speed with Bharti Airtel clocking 9.4 Mbps and 6.8 Mbps managed by Vodafone. Idea was languishing at the bottom of the list with 5.7 Mbps of reported average 4G download speed.
In order to collect the monthly download and upload speed data, TRAI uses the MySpeed application to prepare detailed monthly reports on its portal.
Although Vodafone and Idea post their merger have become a single body (Vodafone Idea Ltd), yet they have been listed as two separate entities on TRAI's website.
In January, Reliance Jio had recorded an average download speed of 18.8 Mbps. However, in February it has bettered itself according to the regulatory body.
In terms of average upload speeds, Reliance Jio didn’t have a good run in February. The Mumbai-based telecom operator recorded 4.9 Mbps upload speed, which is a marginal increase from 4.4Mbps that it clocked last year.
At the top of the list was Idea that recorded an average upload speed of 6 Mbps (post 300k+ test) according to the TRAI speed test, while Vodafone stood second with 5.1 Mbps average upload speeds.
