Jio’s home broadband service is likely to commercially launch in the country by Diwali this year. But the bigger news is that Jio could disrupt the prices of internet plans for homes, by introducing plans of Rs 500 offering 100GB data in over 100 cities.

According to reports, Jio will be expanding its JioFiber test roll-out to other cities in the country. JioFiber has been in the works for many months now, with Mumbai and Pune being the first set of cities where the service was rolled out. Currently, Jio has rolled out JioFiber Preview offer for consumers in Delhi-NCR, Pune, Mumbai and Chennai among others.

Jio hasn’t confirmed the launch, but October looks to be an ideal time frame to roll out JioFiber pan India.

Consumers who have got a taste of JioFiber have claimed they get speeds up to 70Mbps, which is likely to touch the 1Gbps mark once Jio strengthens its fiber line base in the country.

It is being said that users subscribing to JioFiber will have to shell out between Rs 4,000 to Rs 4,500 as a one-time refundable payment for the device. Doing so will make them eligible to use free JioFiber internet for three months.

Unlike mobile users, broadband users in India on average spend over Rs 1,000 for internet. Airtel has been prepping itself for JioFiber’s debut by bringing down the cost of its plans. They’re also giving extra data without charging consumers for it.
