Just imagine, Diwali time this year; your home running on a ‘sasta’ super speed internet broadband system!

Also, a hybrid internet TV set-top-box with regular TV channels and online content for your entertainment. Then the icing on the cake; a feature phone under Rs 1,000 with free calling in your pocket. And all of this in the ‘Aam Aadmi’ budget.

Sounds too good to be true? Well Reliance Jio is working hard to make this a reality.

The ‘Broad’ Aspect of Jio’s Data

Starting with Jio broadband services, they are planning to release a full-fledged high speed broadband system in the country called Jio Link offering speeds up to 1Gbps.

Reliance Jio is working on a Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband service, and have also started beta testing in some cities. They plan to expand the scope of their trials over the coming months.

Currently there are certain residents in Mumbai already receiving the service with reported speed up to 100mbps (in trial) but again, the Jio broadband service is not available for activation yet.

Supposedly, Jio is set to offer different speed plans with the initial 3 months free offer but one will have to pay Rs 4,500 for modem and installation. No word on when the service will be available commercially or will be available for free trials.

The Feature Phone Worth Featuring

Rumours were flying around a couple of months ago about Jio’s 4G feature phone but now it looks like they are ready to bring forth their feature offering that supports 4G VoLTE soon. We already know the upcoming phone will be powered by Qualcomm 205 processor.

The phone will not support touch and will come bundled with a feature set to support Jio apps and offer data and voice over calling. Lite apps from Facebook and others could be compatible with the device.

Jio IPTV ‘Set Hai Box’

And last but not least, Jio is also gearing up to introduce an hybrid internet-TV service soon.

This will be in direct competition with the recently launched hybrid TV service launched by Airtel and also Amazon’s Fire TV stick. Apart from a certain set of regular satellite channels, we are expecting Jio IPTV to provide streaming online content as well.

Really looking forward to what Reliance Jio has to offer. They took the telecom sector by storm with their smartphone data plans and we can expect the same excitement with their new offering.
