What was looking like a very dull Thursday evening turned out to be an eventful one as Instagram managed to piss off a lot of its users by pushing out an update that switched the image-sharing platform into horizontal mode.
Post the update, the users had to swipe side-to-side through their feed as opposed to scrolling up and down.
The update didn’t go down well with the users and had to be undone within a few hours.
According to Time, Instagram head Adam Mosseri had tweeted out about this little experiment earlier and the company had pushed out this update as a part of what was meant to be a “small test”.
What really set the cat amongst the pigeons was that the test was accidentally pushed out to a lot more people than was anticipated.
The update did not affect all the users but the ones it did were required to horizontally swipe through their posts and later discovered they could “tap” through the posts, just like Instagram stories.
Twitterati wasn’t kind at all when it came to criticising the ‘accidental update’ and demanded that Instagram roll back the app into its original format.
Post the commotion online, Instagram posted on its official social media handle that the following anomaly was due to a bug in their system which it had apparently “fixed”.
On the hindsight, who in their right mind would push out instructions for the new update if it was a bug! Learn to lie Instagram!
According to Instagram, the update has been rolled back but if you are still experiencing any issues, the company has advised to you restart the application. That should help.
