Here’s When Your Smartphone Will Get the Android 6.0 Update

All major smartphone makers have publicly announced their intention to offer the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for their devices. Over the next couple of months, HTC, Sony, Samsung and LG among others will roll out the latest Android version in their smartphones.

So which phones will get the update and by when can we expect it in India? We help you figure that out.

LG

LG had overtaken the likes of HTC, Samsung and Asus by pushing out its Marshmallow upgrade much earlier than competition. While the update is primarily planned for European countries right now, Asia will soon follow suit. LG G4 is the company’s leather-laden smartphone which competes at the flagship-level and boasts of impressive imaging capability. With Android Marshmallow, the phone becomes relevant in the market again.

Samsung

Samsung’s Android Marshmallow rollout for various Galaxy devices has been leaked and according to reports, the update could reach your phone as early as next month. In all probability, the latest Galaxy Note 5 should get updated to Android 6.0 by December, along with the Galaxy S6 Edge+.

Moving forward, one can expect the flagship Galaxy S6 to get the update in January .

Phones to be updated: Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy Note 4

Possible update time frame: December ’15 - February ’16

Motorola

The company has gone official with its Marshmallow rollout schedule. The list of devices have been shared via this blog post and according to them, Moto phones will get Android 6.0 Marshmallow in the coming months, including India.

For some reasons, Motorola has left out Moto E (both generation) out of the list.

Phones to be updated: Motorola Moto X Style, Moto X Play, Moto G (2015), Moto Turbo, Nexus 6.

Possible update time frame: December ’15 - January ’16

Asus

The Taiwan-based brand has also declared its Android 6.0 update listing that includes a lot of Zenfones. The update is expected sometime in early 2016 but don’t be surprised if it gets delayed to the latter part of 2016.

Phones to be updated: Asus Zenfone 2, Zenfone 2 Laser, Zenfone 2 Deluxe and Zenfone 2 Selfie

Possible update time frame: Sometime in 2016

OnePlus

Yep, the OnePlus One and OnePlus 2 will get updated to Android, with OnePlus X to be updated at a later date. The update will feature Oxygen OS in a new avatar with features of Marshmallow in tow.

Possible update time frame: January ’16

HTC

HTC was the first brand to announce its Android 6.0 update promise with 90-days turnover for its phones. We are yet to see that happen but hopefully the update will make its way in the coming months.

Phones to be updated: HTC One A9+, One Me dual, One E9+ Dual, Desire 820G+

Sony

The Japanese brand has also shared its software rollout plan for Xperia devices. Sony phones run on Xperia UI that are skinned with Sony products and with the help of Android 6.0 version, their interface should become more user-friendly.

Phones to be updated: Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia M5, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua and Xperia C4.
