Google’s annual developers conference, Google I/O is all set to take place between May 28 and 29, 2015, with news leaks and rumors mushrooming all around.
Google unveils new toys for online and mobile developers every year at this conference. A new report suggests that Google I/O 2015 will feature the launch of fingerprint authentication across the Android M platform for smartphones.
Fingerprint authentication is presently available on some Android devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, and HTC One M9 .
Apple had introduced the Touch ID with the iPhone 5s, well before the technology made its entry in the Android space.
The news was reported by Buzzfeed which said that the new function will allow users to log into all their applications (like Facebook, Twitter, games, banking apps) without entering a password.
Companies like Samsung and HTC have tried their hands on with the fingerprint technology in the past, but were not even close to the experience that one gets on Apple’s touch ID. If the report is true, a Google-standardized API can strengthen the Android ecosystem as many apps will support this technology.
