Google has announced today that it is going to introduce a new “ Share GIFs” section for users. This will let users share GIFs directly into different apps including Gmail, Hangouts and WhatsApp. After the search giant acquired Tenor, Google's been working the past year to create a GIF search engine tool which will power the new ''Share GIF'' section.
GIF is short for Graphics Interchange Format, which is a series of images placed in quick succession to create a short clip or animation. GIFs are popularly used to break up the monotony in content or even for quick, fun replies.
The shareable GIF content will be made available by various creators, such as Google partners from streaming services, movie studios as well as the YouTube community. The new section will be seen in the Google app for Android and iOS as well as Chrome on Android.
Although Google has said that the new section has been made available as of 28 June, we couldn’t see it on the Google app or in the search page yet. This leads us to believe the feature is yet to roll out worldwide.
Google will also be revamping its indexing service next week to include mobile search. It will also be rolling out dynamic emails in Gmail as well. The dynamic email will allow Gmail users to take action directly from within the message. Watch this space for an update on how that works.
