Google on Thursday announced its smart speaker Home will now be able to respond in Hindi with uniquely Indian contexts.
Already available on smartphones in Hindi, people can now talk to the Google Assistant smart speaker in the language, the company said in a statement.
Google optimised Google Assistant to understand queries and commands made in Hindi. The feature was made available to Android phones that are running version 5.0 Lollipop and above.
To get your Google Home or Mini talking in Hindi, here’s what you need to do:
Hindi Support for Google Home
- Open Google Home app on mobile
- Tap ‘Account’ icon at lower-right corner
- Select Settings and go to Assistant tab
- Select Add Language and choose Hindi as first language
- Say ‘Ok Google’ to get Home talking in Hindi
The integration of Hindi to the voice-assistant helps Google’s cause to make it accessible to consumers across the country. The language support also comes in handy for people with JioPhone, which also supports Google Assistant.
Interestingly, Google at a recent media event demonstrated Marathi on Assistant, which sounded a lot different from how its Assistant speaks in English and Hindi right now.
"Our team has been hard at work teaching the Assistant on Google Home to understand Hindi, and it will now respond to you with uniquely Indian contexts.
"The Assistant is already available in Hindi on your smartphone, and now you can also get hands-free help at home in Hindi to get things done in your world," said Purvi Shah, Technical Programme Manager, Google Assistant.
The feature will help many users take Google Assistant's help for daily commute to listening to their favourite music.
