It was at last year’s Google I/O that the company had announced the Android Go initiative which was basically aimed at providing light Android applications for low-end smartphones with lesser specs.
The program was launched in December 2017 and we have seen there have been a lot of ‘Go’ apps launched over the months.
Applications like YouTube Go, Gboard Go and Google Go have already been available in the market especially for low-end phones. These load faster and consume much lesser space that their original counterparts.

Files Go is another application in the line-up that was launched to help users make more efficient use of the space in their smartphones by freeing all the clutter inside and storing in Files Go.

The lighter version of the Google Assistant is almost similar to the full version of the assistant app. Some of the features in the app remain intact though there are some features that are not available like setting reminders or even controlling smart home devices.
Google Assistant Go is offering support only for the English language.
You will be able to perform basic functions like asking questions, navigate Maps and control various functions on your phone with your voice, like turning on the torch and setting an alarm.
Currently the application isn’t available for download in India as there aren’t any devices available in the Indian market that support Google Assistant Go.
Though it is available for download on Android Oreo phones, we weren’t able to install the app as there was a notification on Play Store reading “The app is incompatible with all your devices”. Perhaps it will only support hardware that’s compatible with the app.
Indian smartphone maker Micromax had said earlier that they would be launching India’s first Android Go phone in January 2018, dubbed Bharat Go, though the phone hasn’t yet hit the stalls.
Recently MediaTek had also announced its partnership with Reliance Jio to launch an Android Go edition phone.
With the software and application bit sorted, we can expect the Indian market to be flooded with low end smartphones in the coming months.
