Candy Crush Saga — whether you are hooked on to it, or get unending requests to play it, it’s hard to find someone nowadays who is alien to this game. To put it simply, there is a lot of candy in Candy Crush which you can’t eat, but only tap at. They come in all colours and shapes, and once you got ‘em in sequence, bingo!
The game, developed by King, has been downloaded over 46 million times from Google Play. That makes it one of the most played games in the world. I admit even I play Candy Crush, it’s addictive — in a way it reminds me of Tetris on my Nintendo Gameboy.
But it is this addiction that are robbing people off the ability to interact socially, often leaving those in their company feeling insulted and irate. Think about that friend busily tapping away while you and your other pals are trying to catch up with each other over dinner. One could also reason if each kept to his/her own addiction. It’s when the game makes you roll out requests in lieu of extra lives, and flood other people’s feeds, who aren’t probably as excited about the game, that things start becoming bothersome and annoying.
And if you are choose to not play the game, there will be always that someone at work, or in your peer group who will not stop talking about the game, and his/her achievements as a Candy Crush pro. What does one do? Perhaps the way out, in this case, is abstinence.
Yet, for some, the lure of reaching that next level, keeps one tapping. And how many levels does the freaking game got anyway? I know my wife is on the 620th level.
Do the math!
Alright, let’s do a stats check. Every level can take about 5 minutes on an average to clear.
To reach level 620, my wife would have spent approximately 3,100 minutes. This does not include the time you need to let pass before you get a new life, which takes about 20 minutes after you have exhausted 5 lives without clearing a level.
3,100 minutes is a lot of time to be spent on a game that is, admit it, kinda pointless.
The game’s algorithms are so devised that it pushes you to send a Candy Crush life request to your friends, once you are using a life sent by your friend, and the level clears in just about 2 attempts.
Think about it this way — that next tap you make will be in exchange of family and peer time, a lot of unwanted ire from annoyed friends, and generally some quality me-time . #FreeYourMind of Candy Crush Saga or forever be lost in that virtual candy land.
