Facebook has launched a close parallel of Twitter’s Periscope for live streaming of videos.

The platform, called ‘Live’, was launched on Wednesday and was inaugurated by The Rock, Dwayne Johnson.

He live streamed a video of himself and the stream was followed by 125K people.

The tool is available for Public Figure pages only for now, through Facebook Mentions, another Facebook app meant only for verified accounts.

Actor Dwayne Johnson, Ashley Tisdale, Lester Holt, sport-stars Serena Williams, Ricardo Kaká, businesswoman Martha Stewart and musicians Luke Bryan, Michael Bublé are some celebrities who are on Live.

Once the public figures you have ‘liked’ start streaming their videos, it will appear in your news feed.

And if you miss it, you can watch it later but that’s only if the ‘celebrity’ chooses to save it.

Like four-time world ski champion, Lindsey Vonn, streamed a ski session.

And musician Luke Bryan did the virtual equivalent of a live concert on Live.
