Social media giant Facebook took to Twitter on Wednesday, 13 March, to confirm that its family of applications, which includes Instagram, was facing service issues and were down for several users across the world.
“We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps,” the multi-billion dollar company said.
Facebook said that it was “ working to resolve the issue as soon as possible” and confirmed that the issue was not related to a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack.
While you can open both the platforms, it appears that sending or receiving messages on either platform, or posting of new content, has been barred.
The issue, however, is not just limited to Facebook, as this Independent report points out.
WhatsApp, Etsy and the website of the US Postal Service are all being hit by similar problems, the report said. Twitter also appears to be having some issues.
It is still not clear what is causing the issue, which is only hitting specific users. It is also not confirmed how or if the issues are connected.
