Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan on Friday said the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will unveil the roadmap for 5G or fifth-generation by the end of June. She also confirmed that the country could primarily function around 4G network connectivity by mid-2019.
The Telecom Commission and Secretary, DoT, said while inaugurating an Assocham Summit on Connected Devices-Connected World conference, “The DoT has received good inputs on 5G in the new telecom policy or NTP 2018 which is yet to be unveiled. The draft of the NTP 2018 is in final stages and will be put in public soon."
Sundararajan said the networks were not only accelerating the roll-out of the 4G but were getting ready for 5G.
I expect that by the end of the next financial year, we will have pan India 4G coverage barring a few pockets. The right regulatory framework is the key to create an enabling environment for connected device.
DoT will be hoping that telecom giants like Airtel seek partnerships with telecom gear makers like Huawei and Nokia among others, who’ll play a crucial role in bringing up the 5G infrastructure. Reliance Jio has already stated that its network is 5G-ready, and will be able to meet the country’s demand, whenever the spectrum roll-out takes place.

The baby girl, who we will refer to as 'Chhutki', was allegedly raped by her 28-year-old cousin when her parents were away. She has been discharged from AIIMS hospital after undergoing three surgeries, but needs more medical treatment in order to heal completely. Her parents hail from a low-income group and have stopped going to work so that they can take care of the baby. You can help cover Chhutki's medical expenses and secure her future. Every little bit counts. Click here to donate.)
