Everyone needs an email ID to book a ticket, a cab and much more. But there are still users who have been away from the world of mails, mostly because of language barriers. But if all goes according to plan, a lot of new users will be able to subscribe to Gmail or Outlook ID in the language of their preference.

According to reports, the Indian government has held talks with majors like Google and Microsoft about the prospect of offering email IDs in a multitude of local languages including Hindi. This move directly falls in line with the Narendra Modi-led regime’s Digital India mission.

This way, the government hopes to widen its internet reach across different corners of the country, where digital penetration remains abysmally low.

Google has been keen on building its base in the Indian market, where according to the search giant, more than 50 percent users are yet to make use of internet. They already offer the option of using Google’s various products in vernacular language, and now the IT ministry of India wants Google and the rest to take it to another level.

Lets Make it Happen

Most industry experts are of the opinion that letting more users access the internet will only become a reality, if the cost of owning internet comes down to affordable levels. This is where a government-backed internet project sourced from the likes of BSNL or MTNL can go a long way in widening the internet spread in the country.
