Delhi Metro is officially Wi-Fi enabled and commuters can now enjoy high-speed internet without paying anything for it. The Delhi Metro Wi-Fi service is currently available on the Blue Line (Dwarka to Noida City Centre), with other routes like the Yellow Line (Huda City Centre to Samaypur Badli) in tow for the free service.
This feature could ensure that more people opt to travel via metro, especially when they get a chance to surf the web, as well as stream their favourite videos on-the-go. So, how does one connect and use this Wi-Fi service? Here’s all you need to know.
High-Speed Wi-Fi On-The-Go
The Wi-Fi service on Delhi Metro has been set up by India-based company Techno Sat Comm. They’ve already worked on the Wi-Fi project for the Airport Metro line in the capital.
The service called Oui Wi-Fi will be available across 50 metro stations for now, and anybody using the service doesn’t have to pay a dime to connect to the internet.
The Quint reached out to the firm providing Wi-Fi in the metro, who claim that each metro is capable of offering speeds up to 150 Mbps, while each commuter could get speeds as high as 40 Mbps.
Delhi Metro and the provider claim that with Oui Wi-Fi, you can browse the internet, access applications like YouTube, Facebook, and live stream events such as cricket matches.
In addition, you could also use the service to make calls via apps like WhatsApp, as the underground metro connectivity for calls isn’t up to the mark.
How Wi-Fi Works?
So, what does one have to do to sign up for the Wi-Fi once they enter the metro? For starters, switch on the Wi-Fi on your device and select the SSID called Oui Wi-Fi.
After that, you’ll be redirected to a login page, which will ask your name and mobile number for authentication purposes via one time password (OTP).
But public Wi-Fi can be susceptible to data theft from hackers, so we asked how they plan to keep the Wi-Fi secure, to which they replied:
Once the person connects to the internet, their MAC address will be tracked and monitored. This ensures all activities are monitored and alerted when the internet is used for wrong purposes.Techno Sat Comm to The Quint
They also highlighted that the Wi-Fi service has been provided with required firewall mechanism in place. But for now, you can stream all websites, without any blockages.
You can stream all websites right now, but very soon we’ll restrict use of websites that carry harmful information.Techno Sat Comm to The Quint
Well, we’re just happy that free-for-all Wi-Fi internet is finally onboard the Delhi Metro, and we can’t wait to try it out.
