Amid much anticipation, the pre-booking of the "effectively-free" 4G VoLTE JioPhone begins on 24 August.

The device is expected to generate a huge demand, and Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani has already announced that Jio is looking to bring 5 million phones to the market a week.

While the phone comes with an "effective" price tag of Rs 0, one needs to keep in mind that a security of Rs 1,500 would be required, and the same amount is fully refundable after 3 years (if you return the phone).

Now if you're already convinced that this phone is worth your money (or no money in this case!), we tell you everything that you need to do to get your hands on it.

While the pre-bookings for the device officially kick-starts on 24 August, some offline retailers have already set the booking process in motion, reported NDTV.

The first deliveries of the phone are expected between 1 and 4 September.

In order to book the JioPhone, you would need to provide an Aadhaar card to the retailer. It should be noted that you can purchase only one, and not multiple devices, with a single Aadhaar card.

Once this is done, a token number would be given to you, which should be mentioned at the time of collecting the phone. The security deposit payment of Rs 1,500 has to be deposited not when providing the Aadhaar details, but at the time of collecting the phone.

If you want to get your hands on multiple devices, you would have to register yourself as a business. For this purpose, the organisation's PAN or GSTN number will have to be submitted.

On the online front, you can visit Jio.com and register yourself by clicking on the 'Keep me posted' link. You will be asked whether you are buying the phone for an individual or business purposes.

For those who are already using Jio internet services, registration can be done through the MyJio app.

Registration via SMS can be done by sending ‘JP <> your area pin code <> Jio store code near your area’ to 7021170211.
