Apple Watch users will finally get to use apps from Apple App store on the wearable device later this year. This has been made possible on the WatchOS 6 which was demoed at the WWDC 2019 keynote on Monday.

There are a slew of other features coming to Apple Watch series, but developers will be pleased to know they can create apps independently for the Watch as well, offering them the chance go to beyond what’s already existing.

This means, the Watch finally has enough power within itself to work separately, without needing to pair with an iPhone all the time.

They’ve also introduced some new watch faces, just in case you were interested in knowing those things about the device which costs over 30K in India.

But it’s hard to argue that support for third-party apps on Watch is the biggest upgrade that Watch users would have been hoping for.

Users can easily install third-party apps, search for apps using Siri, dictation or scribble and view app product pages designed for the watch screen right from the wrist

You can also listen to audio books from the Watch on your wrist (if that’s something you’d want to do) and there’s a new Calculator app which helps you with splitting bills, again without needing iPhone to do that for you.

And last but not the least, a feature to track menstrual cycle makes its appearance on WatchOS 6, which will also be available to users of iOS 13 on iPhone.

The daily log function enables the quick addition of information related to the menstrual cycle, including current period, flow, symptoms, results from ovulation prediction kits and other elements of fertility tracking.

The WatchOS 6 will be compatible with Apple Watch Series 1 or later paired with iPhone 6s or later which is running iOS 13 or later, the company mentioned in its keynote.
