Yes, they said it was an affordable iPhone for the masses. Then they priced it at Rs 39,000 for a 16GB version.

Say hello to the iPhone SE.

But the iPhone SE at Rs 39,000 just doesn’t make sense. Apple realises that too and is now offering the iPhone SE in India on lease at Rs 999/month.

Now before you get your hopes up, here’s how it works. The leasing plan would let corporate users buy the iPhone SE (16GB) by paying Rs 999 per month for two years, similar to the network contracts in other countries.

And guess what? Your company and not you will have to sign the contract.

This is how it works.

This is purely a corporate/enterprise offer where a company will lease a number of devices for its employees directly from the distributors. To do so, the company can write to iphonecorporate@icloud.com.

The plan lets the corporate/company enter into an agreement with Apple’s distributor for this scheme.

So, if you want an iPhone SE, make a union in your company, go on strike and ask your management to buy the iPhone SE. And if your company agrees, you will be stuck with the company for the next two years, whether you like it or not.

Apple is also offering the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s for Rs 1,199 and Rs 1,399 per month.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, but Apple and its distributors in India are really pushing their luck as the actual cost of making the iPhone SE is under $200.
