While Reliance JioFiber announced its 1Gbps data plan, which will be available soon, Airtel on Wednesday has jumped the line by offering its own 1Gbps plan to consumers from this month itself. The telco has launched the Xstream Fibre plan with 1Gbps data speeds, which is priced at Rs 3,999 per month.

For the time being, Airtel is offering this plan in cities: Delhi, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad, Mumbai, Pune Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Indore, Jaipur and Ahmedabad. More areas will be added in the coming months, it mentioned in a company statement.

The Xstream Fibre service promises unlimited data every month, but after checking with the company, we can tell you that the plan has fair usage policy (FUP) data limit of 3,333GB every month, after which speeds come down to 1Mbps.

Compared to JioFiber, Airtel is offering over 800GB more every month. That’s not all, with Airtel, consumers are getting more.

Airtel Xstream Fibre also offers “unlimited landline calls” to any network in India along with benefits such as three months Netflix subscription gift, one year Amazon Prime membership and access to premium content from ZEE5 and Airtel Xstream app

But one needs to understand that to access all this content, consumers will have to buy the Xstream Box separately, which is priced at Rs 3,999 for the new users. Existing Airtel subscribers can get it exchanged by paying Rs 2,449.

This is where JioFiber proves to be attractive, as the 4K set-top box and router are being offered for free, as part of the JioFiber Welcome Offer.

People should also know that Airtel lets users stream content from its mobile app to the television, which is not possible with the JioTV app.

All in all, Airtel and other companies rivaling JioFiber will launch competitive plans, and consumers are most likely to benefit from how things unfold in the coming months.
