The delivery of about 6 million Reliance JioPhones has begun, and is likely to completed within 15 days, as per a channel partner of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL).

The company has also tweeted that the delivery will be rolled out in a phased manner, and likely to be completed before Diwali, which is on 19 October.

This development falls in line with a PTI report that indicated that deliveries of the low-cost 4G handsets will begin from rural areas and small towns before reaching urban centres.

How to Check Delivery Status?

  • Via MyJio app - Open the app and select the ‘manage order’ option
  • On Jio.com - Click on the ‘manage order‘ page on the website
  • Via phone - Dial 18008908900 from your Jio number to check delivery status

So, what’s the reason for this delivery strategy? The PTI report added that the chairman (Mukesh Ambani) had said that the Reliance JioPhone will bridge the digital divide between rural India and urban India, which meant prioritising tier II and tier III regions before hitting the metros.

We’re not surprised to see Jio target the rural areas for the Rs 1,500 JioPhone to start with. After all, that’s the consumer-base (first time internet users) Jio wants to position the product for, thereby expanding its users on the 4G VoLTE network.

Any user getting the JioPhone will get access to free voice calling (as is the case with VoLTE network), but will have to pay Rs 153 every month, which gets them 500MB data every day.

Users who’ve booked the JioPhone (both online and offline) will get details of the store (with the registered pincode) where the device will be delivered. Once you get the message, head over to the store along with your Aadhaar card (for e-KYC), pay up the remaining Rs 1000, and start using the JioPhone.
