KTM confirmed the launch of its small adventure tourer, the 390 Adventure, for next year. The 390 Adventure will be the sixth Adventure model in the KTM's adventure tourers lineup.
The launch of the KTM 390 Adventure will also mark the entry of the adventure lineup to India. KTM motorcycles also has the naked Duke and the mini supersports RC models.
We don't know yet how the bike looks, but from the spy pics we have seen over the past two years, it does seem like a capable off roader. Its off-road credentials are evident from the huge wire spoke wheels, along with a longer suspension on the front, high mounted front fender and a rear swing-arm with mono shock suspension. Also, given KTM's history with rally racing, one should expect a very capable off roader.
The Adventure 390 will most likely house the 373 cc engine we have seen on the 390 Duke and the RC 390, but will be tuned to give it better off-road capabilities.
It will also share the same platform as the Duke and will be built on the same frame the Duke has been built on.
This news about the 390 Adventure launch comes at a time when BMW is launching two of its adventure tourer twins – the G 310R and the GS 310 – which could lead to some of BMW’s customers rethinking their pre-bookings. This move is also being seen as a spoiler from KTM.
Now, although the 390 Adventure shares its DNA with the bigger KTM 1290 Adventure, the 390 Adventure in the spy pictures, somewhat looks like KTM's Enduro.
By being in the under Rs 3 lakh range, the 390 Adventure will face quite a bit of competition from the likes of Royal Enfield Himalayan and BMW Motorrad's two new bikes.
