Smartphone makers like Asus have just had it with bullies like Xiaomi who consider all other brands pushovers. Being number one in India has its perks.

With the launch of the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, the Taiwanese smartphone maker did become a cause of worry for Xiaomi when the M1 sales escalated. The success of the phone was a clear cue for Asus that it needed to keep the momentum and upgrade one of its most successful propositions. In comes the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2.

The new Asus mid-ranger is a feather-weight yet packs a mammoth 5,000mAh battery. But, does all that ‘mAh’ might make it a worthy challenger to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro? Here’s a quick comparison. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro vs Zenfone Max Pro M2.

Design & Display

There’s nothing to separate the two in the display department. Both come with an identical feature set being a 6.3-inch FHD+ screen that pumps out 403 ppi. The Zenfone offers better screen protection with the latest Gorilla Glass 6 and surely counts for some extra brownie points.

The Redmi Note 6 Pro sports a slim full metal body, which no doubt is very attractive but if you like a little more bling to go with your phone and like the glossy touch, the Zenfone Max Pro M2 is the way to go. Although, just FYI – all that gloss is not glass, it’s plastic.

Performance & Storage

The Zenfone Max Pro M2 runs on a Snapdragon 660 processor coupled with 3GB and 4GB of RAM (two variants). The Redmi takes a step back with a Snapdragon 636 and that to me is something one should consider before buying the phone.

I personally like my phone clean and bloatware free. Anyone who agrees with my liking will prefer the Zenfone Max Pro thanks to its near stock Android experience. Xiaomi fans swear by MIUI which speaks a lot about how user friendly it is. I guess it’s something very personal which is why I leave it to you to decide.

Both come with up to 6GB of RAM and expandable storage though the Zenfone has a better graphics processor.

Camera & Battery

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro comes with a 20+2-megapixel front camera, which has proved its mettle over the last few months. On the rear is a 13+5 megapixel shooter which doesn’t shy away from impressing either.

The Max Pro too sports a 13+5 megapixel setup on the rear, but is a slightly better performer in low light thanks to lower aperture at f/1.8. On the front, the Max Pro sports a 13-megapixel sensor which isn’t as good as the Redmi, but still gets the job done.

You’re getting a 5,000 mAh battery with the Zenfone Max Pro which is 1,000 mAh more than what you get with Redmi. Considering the Zenfone at 175 grams is lighter than the Xiaomi, it’s commendable that the Max Pro is offering the extra battery life. Kudos!

Which One to Buy?

Let’s first get the obvious out of the way. The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 is priced at Rs 16,999 for the 64GB storage and 6GB RAM variant. At this price, it is Rs 1,000 costlier than the top variant of the Redmi Note 6 Pro.

You have to consider what’s on offer. With the Max Pro you’re getting a better processor, bigger battery and a near stock Android experience. If you feel that the extra 1,000 bucks are worth the features on offer, then the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 is the ideal buy for you.

But remember, Xiaomi phones are among the top-selling ones in India for a reason, so even if you buy the Redmi Note 6 Pro at Rs 15,999, it’s not a bad bargain.
