After launching the Mi Mix 2 in 2017, Xiaomi is all set welcome the next iteration of its bezel-less smartphone, dubbed as the Mi Mix 2S. The phone will make its official launch on 27 March in China, and everyone will be keeping a close eye on the pricing of the phone.
The Mi Mix 2 was made available in India for Rs 32,999, and was Xiaomi’s first Mi Mix phone to enter the Indian market in 2017. Now with the Mi Mix 2S widely making the news, here’s everything you need to know about the next Mi Mix phone, and what the rumours mills have been churning out over the past few weeks.
Notch is Here
Well, no surprises to hear that Xiaomi, inspired by Apple, will replicate the Notch with the Mi Mix 2S. They’ve already aced the bezel-less screen design with the Mi Mix and the Mi Mix 2, and so, it was only logical to go with a slight difference, ie, the notch (really?).
Reports and leaks have shown us glimpses of what the Mi Mix 2S could look like, but on the whole, it’s becoming harder to understand the logic of taking the notch mainstream.
Screen sizes beyond six-inches have become the norm and we expect Mi Mix 2S to continue the trend.
While it does help Google showing its support for the notch (but why?) with the upcoming Android P, there’s a long wait before the software makes its way to the devices (especially Mi Mix 2S) in the market. So, technically, phone makers will have to bide their time for Android P, before ensuring Android devices can make sense of the notch.
Flagship-Like Hardware
As always, Xiaomi is likely to opt for the latest hardware in the market, which means, Snapdragon 845 along with 4 or 6GB RAM (8GB RAM probably) in tow. Storage has never been a concern with Mi devices, and we hope that the Mi Mix 2S caters to 128GB at least. Apart from that, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 could make its way (it’s a 2018 phone after all), and some other features like Miracast will also be present.
But I am most excited to see if Xiaomi manages to bring wireless charging support to the Mi Mix 2S, and if that does happen then Xiaomi will have another first to its name in this segment.
We also hope that Xiaomi packs a big-size battery on the Mi Mix 2S, especially if it gets a 2560x1440 pixels or 2K resolution display.
Camera With AI-Smartness
Xiaomi’s MiUi version of Android is loved by many Mi users across the globe, but the camera on Mi Mix 2 did feel like a work in progress. To make up for that, reports indicate that Xiaomi will be the latest phone maker to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) based camera optics on the Mi Mix 2S, something which we’ve already seen with the Honor View 10 recently.
While, we haven’t truly seen the impact of AI on camera optics yet, but Xiaomi, with its right mix of hardware and software, could surely give other phone makers a path to work on. The phone is sure to get dual rear cameras (another standard industry trend now).
Pricing it the Xiaomi-Way
From smartphones to smart TVs, Xiaomi’s products are affordable and offer great value for money in some respect.
As we told you earlier, the Mi Mix 2 retails in India for Rs 32,999, and with the Mi Mix 2S about to launch in a few weeks from now, expect Xiaomi to retain its midas touch of pricing the phone in the affordable category, especially for what it’s going to offer.
