Off late, we’ve seen phones that are launched in two variants. For instance, the Google Pixel gets a smaller and a traditional screen (without any bells and whistles), while the Pixel XL gets an advanced looking display.

Now, Vivo is kind of giving us the best of both the world with its Nex Dual Display phone, which packs two screens on either side. The Vivo Nex Dual made it to a few markets in the world, and somehow the list doesn’t include India (probably gauging demand first).

But, we managed to spend sometime with the Nex Dual and here’s a closer look at this futuristic device and what does the second screen offers.

  2. Operating System: Funtouch OS over Android 9.0 Pie
  3. Processor: Octa-core Snapdragon 845
  4. RAM: 10GB
  5. Storage: 128GB, non-expandable
  6. Rear and Rear Camera: 12 MP, f/1.8 + 2MP f/1.8
  7. Battery: 3500mAh

Nex is one of the many unique devices we’ve seen in recent months. This year, brands like Samsung, Motorola and even Xiaomi have talked about foldable phones (and even showcased prototypes) but Vivo seems to be headed in a different direction and that’s good to see.

The Nex Dual gets a bigger screen on the front (took time figuring out which side the front is), without any notch or even the punch hole design for a front camera. Instead, you’re living with the phone which doesn’t differentiate between a front and rear camera. Both carry the same optics of 12-megapixel with an additional 2 megapixel sensor for depth sensing.

It comes powered by Snapdragon 845 (because it was launched in 2018) coupled with 10GB RAM, which is likely to become the norm in 2019. Strangely, the 128GB onboard is not expandable. The dual-SIM slots are just that and not hybrids for change.

We’re not sure how the 3500mAh battery loaded on the Nex Dual would be able to tackle two displays. It’s highly unlikely that you’ll be using both the screens at the same but Vivo has taken a big gamble here, probably to trim down its size to 8.1-mm and restricting the weight to 199 grams.

While it’s hasn’t launched in India yet but we’re pleased to see Vivo bringing it to the country and showing us what the Nex Dual actually offers.
