OnePlus has come out with yet another variant of the OnePlus 6T in India and it’s called the McLaren edition. It has been priced at Rs 50,999. This is its first phone in the Indian market to come with a whopping 10GB of RAM, ably supported by 256GB storage out of box.
The McLaren edition is similar to OnePlus partnering for the Star Wars and the Avengers editions previously. However, being priced at Rs 50,999 the OnePlus 6T McLaren edition isn’t going to sell in as big numbers as claimed by the brand, but it does have a new charging feature to flaunt.
You’re getting almost the same features (camera and software to be precise) as on the regular OnePlus 6T variant. So what’s so special about this edition of the OnePlus 6T? We spent some time with the device and here are our impressions of the device.
The OnePlus 6T McLaren edition gets the same 6.4-inch AMOLED screen from its original version. It is powered by the octa-core Snapdragon 845 processor, but with 10GB RAM and 256GB storage.
In terms of design, the McLaren edition has imprints of orange finish, layered on the edges. It gives you the feeling of the mirror black variant, which is glossy and tends to be slippery as well. The McLaren badge at the back differentiates this from the other OnePlus 6T variants that you can get hold of in the market.
The cameras are also the same; both front and back. For a premium variant, we expected the McLaren edition to get IP certification or at least support wireless charging. But OnePlus feels that its users are comfortable with what’s on offer.
Having said that, the speed element of the McLaren edition comes from the Warp Charge feature. This is OnePlus coming out with another variant of Dash Charger, which it claims is slightly faster and better equipped to handle the device heating while charging.
The Warp Charge supports 30W power, and OnePlus claims you get 50 percent juice by charging it for 20 minutes. We’ll test those claims out in the coming days.
The phone comes loaded with a 3,700mAh battery that has been well received on the regular OnePlus 6T in the past few months. So, that’s the OnePlus 6T McLaren edition. Some new additions with the higher price tag, which OnePlus feels is more than justifiable. But is it really? We’ll leave that judgment to those who want to go for this one.
