Yamaha seems to have taken an aggressive approach in establishing itself in the commuter segment in India. They recently launched the Saluto RX and are on a high when it comes to entry-level scooters with the success of the retro-styled Fascino.
Now, they have come out with another scooter in the 100 cc segment in the form of the Cygnus Ray-ZR, which will be available in the market from May 2016. The scooter was first unveiled during the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, where the MT-09 stole the limelight.
Competitively priced at Rs 52,000 for the drum brake variant and Rs 54,500 for the disc brake variant, the Ray-ZR is priced close to the Fascino, which costs Rs 53,300. (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi)
Out of the total demand of two wheelers in India, the scooter segment is soaring with 30% contribution to the sales and we are looking at 10% market share for this year.Roy Kurian, VP-Sales & Marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd.
Yamaha’s latest offering is powered by a 113 cc air-cooled SOHC engine that comes with Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The company claims that the scooter is capable of giving a mileage of 66 km/l, thanks to the Japanese manufacturer’s ‘Blue Core’ technology and the relatively light weight of the scooter at 103 kg.
The Ray-ZR will basically provide an option to the potential Yamaha customer who is looking for and entry-level scooter as they can either go for the retro-look Fascino or the more angular and sporty Cygnus Ray-ZR.
