Volkswagen has finally announced that the compact sedan Ameo will be available in the country with prices starting from Rs 5.2 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The car will be available with two fuel engine options –
1.2-litre 3-cylinder MPI (petrol) and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder TDI engine (diesel).
Ameo was first showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and is said to be the first Volkswagen product that has been designed and tailor-made for the Indian consumers, locally manufactured at the German automakers’ Pune plant.
The company’s latest offering is their first-ever sub-4 metre compact sedan, that will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and the Hyundai Xcent.
The Ameo underlines the company’s philosophy of offering the best of technology and safety standards packaged at an attractive price. Through the Ameo, we are confident of cementing Volkswagen’s strong presence in the compact sedan segment and further expand the Volkswagen India family.Volkswagen India
The Volkswagen Ameo seems to be a Polo from the front and a Vento from the back. The difference is visible when you look at it from the sides, as the boot seems to be simply cut short. It’s fair to say that Volkswagen Ameo is a Vento with smaller boot space, something that’s worked like a charm for Maruti with its Dzire.
It’s great to see that the German automaker has finally conceived a product suited for Indian consumers. Hopefully they can still attain fair share of market in this segment, currently dominated by Maruti.
