Volkswagen has been facing a lot of heat due to the emission regulation scandal around the world and has seen a steep decrease in sales across the entire range in India as well.

To tackle this, the German automaker is taking the used and abused road of launching a sub 4-metre compact sedan. VW is all set to launch the Ameo at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, which begins on 5 February.

VW managed to create some buzz in the run-up to the launch with a name-guessing campaign.

But the excitement is likely to be short-lived.

When we heard of the news of a new sedan, we had high expectations. We thought VW would make a well-designed car – something the company claims to be masters at.

But when we sawthe Ameo, we were left disappointed...

The Ameo looks identical to VW’s Polo from the front and Vento from the back. When you look at it from the sides you realise that their “made in India, made for India” design basically means fiddling with the length of the boot, so that the car can evade some taxes and fall into the sub-4 metre compact sedan category.

Ameo is likely to be priced between Rs 5-8 lakhs, and will compete with the Maruti Suzuki DZire, Ford Figo Aspire, Honda Amaze and Tata Zest.

While we await the launch, for now we are left with a few questions about the VW Ameo.

Is it a longer Polo? Or a shorter Vento?
