TVS Motors has entered the 300-cc bike segment in India, with its highly anticipated Apache RR310 priced at Rs 2.05 lakh (ex-showroom).
The company claims that after its success with the RTR iteration, they want to push the levels of sports performance biking in the country with the RR series.
The Apache RR310 was first showcased as the Akula concept at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. TVS jointly worked with BMW Motorrad to design and manufacture the bike in the country. Exports to other markets are also in the offing.
The Apache RR310 is testament to the TVS-BMW Motorrad partnership’s plans to primarily focus on bikes in the sub-500cc segment for India. The bike borrows its engine from the BMW G 310R, which is a 312cc single cylinder unit, mated with 6-speed transmission.
TVS claims that the Apache RR310 can go up from 0 to 60km/hr in 2.3 seconds, with a top speed of 160Km/hr. The bike gets 34PS of power and 27.3Nm of torque, maxing out at 9,700 rpm.
A number of people that The Quint met at the launch event in Chennai had good things to say about the design inspiration from the Panigale (Nope, we’re not going there). But, on the whole, you’re getting a bike that’s got the looks, and seems to be packing enough punch too (we’ll test that out soon).
The bike’s got a kerb weight of 169.5 kg, comes with a 11-litre fuel tank, and ABS on both the Michelin Street Sports tyres. For safety, the Apache RR310 gets petal disc brakes, with 300mm on the front, and 240mm at the back.
For lighting, Apache RR310 gets Bi-LED projector headlamps with DRLs and LED tail lamps as well. It comes with a ground clearance of 180mm, which should be ideal for sporting enthusiasts who like to test the lean capability of performance bikes.
The bike offers a promising package, without going overboard with flashy design. The pricing seems to have been decided keeping in mind the BMW G 310R, as and when it launches.
