2. After Global Heat, Volkswagen’s India Unit to Come Under Scanner

Government last week said it has asked automotive testing agency ARAI to inquire if Volkswagen had followed the same practice during emission tests in India as it did in the US, where it faces a fine of over $18 billion for manipulation.

The auto major has admitted that it used a software in some of its diesel engines during emissions tests in the US which enabled manipulation of results. According to reports, the German government said Volkswagen had manipulated emissions in Europe as well.

3. Renault Kwid Launched in India, Prices Begin at Rs 2.56 Lakh

Renault’s much awaited entry-level car, the Kwid, is finally launched in India and the company has successfully managed to price the top-end variant of the car under Rs 4 lakh.

The car is powered by a three-cylinder 800 cc engine, that can deliver 25.7 km/l of fuel efficiency. The car goes up against the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and Hyundai’s Eon in India.

The engine churns out 53 BHP and 72 Nm of torque and even though it lags behind the Eon in the department, it does beat the Alto.

The Kwid scores the highest in its ground clearance at 180 mm.

4. Ford Launches the New Figo to Compete with Swift and Grand i10

Ford India launched its much-awaited B-Segment hatchback, the next generation Figo starting at Rs 4,29,900 ex-showroom, New Delhi. The diesel variant price starts at Rs 5,29,900 ex-showroom, New Delhi.

The hatchback will compete in the Indian market with the likes of Hyundai’s Grand i10 and Maruti Suzuki’s Swift and Ritz.

The second generation Figo also gets some high-end features seen in sedans like the Ford MyKey system that can limit speed, MyFord Dock for smart devices and Sync with Ford AppLink to connect and control mobile devices.

5. Mercedes-Benz Launches the Locally Produced Mercedes-Maybach

Mercedes-Benz India launched the ultimate symbol of luxury motoring across the world, the Mercedes-Maybach, in India. The car will have two variants – the Mercedes-Maybach S 600 and the S 500.

The launch of the luxury saloon also marks the introduction of Mercedes-Benz’s new sub-brand, ‘Mercedes-Maybach’, for the Indian market.

The Mercedes-Maybach S 500 is the most luxurious Mercedes-Benz ever to be locally produced in India.

The locally produced Mercedes-Maybach S 500 is priced at INR 1.67 crore (ex-showroom, Pune) while the S 600 (CBU) is priced at INR 2.60 crore (ex-showroom, Pune).
