Indian roads are filled with all kinds of cars, the majority of which are hatchbacks. But this year, we saw a tremendous growth in one particular automobile segment – luxury sedans.

A car that offers good mileage is not good enough anymore. It should also offer comfort, safety, luxury and should come fitted with the latest technology.

In order to cope with these demands, almost every automaker in the country has a luxury sedan available in their line-up of cars making it difficult to differentiate between the good, the bad and the ugly.

But we’ve got you covered. Here are the top five luxury sedans to hit Indian roads this year, in no particular order.

The 3 series sedan is one of the best-selling models by BMW in the country, and frankly, that’s not very surprising.

The car is powered by a powerful 1.5-litre engine that can take you from 0-100 km/h in under 9 seconds.

The car also offers some awesome features like the keyless entry which you can also use to open the boot – even when your hands are full. Just wave your leg under the rear bumper (make sure the key is in your pocket) and it’ll swing open all the way.

Mercedes-Benz CLA AMG

The Mercedes CLA is one of the best-looking sedans in the country right now that offers luxury that can put any high-end saloon to shame. And when it gets the AMG treatment, it becomes one hell of a car.

The CLA AMG is like travelling in a rocket that’s been fitted with a couch. It takes you from a standstill to 100 km/h in a matter of a mere 4.3 seconds thanks to the AMG powered 2-litre engine that produces 381 horsepower and is connected to a 7-speed transmission.

It also comes with features like an electric parking brake, 7-inch infotainment system, 6 airbags as standard and automatic headlamps. Plus, it finds out when you’re sleepy while driving and gives you auditory and visual warning to keep you awake.

The Jaguar XF comes with three engine options and the ‘slowest’ one, takes you to a top speed of 250 km/h (electronically limited for safety). And if you want some music to go along the blazing speeds, this car can manage – it’s fitted with a 7-inch infotainment system that is connected to 17 speakers inside the car.

Plus, at the end of the day, when someone asks about it, you get to say, “It’s a Jaaaaag.”

Audi A6 Matrix

The Audi A6 Matrix is the revolution you’ve been waiting. With its Matrix LED headlamps that boast next-level technology, it’s got looks to die for.

This car can reload your desire to keep driving even if you’re on the verge of losing it thanks to crazy traffic snarls and horrible roads.

The car comes with 8 airbags, Bose surround sound system and an incredible Driver Information System which shows you the navigation screen right between the speedometer and tachometer.

Yes, we know that this isn’t the first name that pops up in your mind when we say top luxury sedans in India, but what we found in our review of the Volkswagen Jetta was that it’s no less than any other luxury sedan in the country today.

Luxury sedans are often referred to as “lambi gaadis” in India, and the length of this car lives up to that name.

It is longer than the Audi A3, BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes CLA AMG. This means that the back seat comfort and rear legroom is right at par with the big players in this segment, and all this comes at a price that that is almost half of the others.
