American automobile maker Tesla has unveiled its crossover SUV prototype, the Model Y has been priced starting $39,000 (27 lakh approx.) going up to $60,000 ( Rs 41.58 lakh approx.). The wraps were taken off the new car at the company's design center in Hawthorne, California on Thursday, 14 March.
The highly anticipated four-wheeler from Tesla can be purchased online from today with a booking amount from $2,500 (which is refundable).

The company boss, Elon Musk, said at the event that the Model Y is about 10 percent bigger than the Model 3, and is capable of seating seven, features a panoramic glass sunroof and comes with almost 1,800 litres of boot space.
Tesla plans to produce four versions of the Model Y
Versions of Tesla Model Y
- Standard-range model: maximum range of 370 kilometres (kms), top speed: 193 kmph and costs Rs 27 lakh approx.
- Long-range model: Gets 482 km of range, has a top speed of 209 kmph and costs Rs 32.57 lakh approx. It will be delivered from mid-2020.
- Dual-motor all wheel drive model: Range up to 450 kms, top speed of 217 kmph, it will be priced at Rs 35.36 lakh approx.
- Performance model: Range of 450 kms, top speed of 241 kmph at Rs 41.59 lakh approx.
The Model Y, according to Musk, shares 75 percent of its parts with the Model 3 which is the company’s cheapest car at $35,000 (Rs 24 lakh approx).
He also added that the car will be 10 percent bigger than the Model 3, and will also be 10 percent more expensive, offering slightly less range for the same battery size.
