Tata Motors is expanding its fleet of electric vehicles. It has announced that it will be launching the Tata Nexon EV, which will be the first vehicle in its line up to feature its Ziptron technology. The Tata Nexon is expected to be priced between Rs 15 lakh to Rs 17 lakhs, according to an official press release from Tata.
The Tata Nexon EV plans to come with a range of about 300 km per charge, which should address most range anxiety issues. To put it in perspective, the Tata Tigor EV currently only offers between 110-140 Km per charge.
Tata claims the Nexon EV will be equipped with an efficient high voltage system, fast-charging capability, battery and motor with a warranty of 8 years, and adherence to IP67 (dust and waterproof) standards.
The Tata Nexon EV will be launched in the fourth quarter of this financial year, which is sometime between January and March 2020. It has roped in actors Milind Soman and Ankita Konwar as ambassadors for the brand. They will be driving the Nexon EV around the country over varied terrain.
As part of the drive, this power couple plans to drive from Manali to Leh with this electric vehicle – a distance of over 450 Km, over tough terrain in cold conditions, which would further reduce battery life. Moreover, there is limited charging infrastructure as some of the places en-route have limited access to electricity.
Tata’s Ziptron technology is its brand for its electric vehicle power-train. It comprises of a permanent magnet AC motor tuned for performance, offers water-proofing and dust proofing and utilises regenerative braking to charge its lithium-ion battery pack on the go.
The Tata Nexon otherwise comes with a choice of 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel motors, priced between Rs 6.69 lakh and Rs 11.16 lakh. It has earned itself accolades for being a safe vehicle, having got a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP.
