The company is hosting a media event on 19 December to showcase the SUV, where we can expect to get more details about the first mid-range electric SUV from Tata Motors. A few months back, Tata confirmed the Nexon EV is expected to be priced between Rs 15 lakh to Rs 17 lakhs, making it cheaper than the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona.

But more importantly, Tata has said it will be setting up charging stations across the country, in order to meet the needs of prospective Nexon EV buyers.

In terms of basic details, Nexon EV will come equipped with a high-voltage system, fast-charging capability, battery and motor with a warranty of 8 years, and adherence to IP67 (dust and waterproof) standards. Tata is unlikely to make wholesale changes to the design, focusing on the core needs of an electric vehicle, which includes a charging port, either on the front or side of the car.

Tata’s Ziptron technology is its brand for its electric vehicle power-train. It comprises of a permanent magnet AC motor tuned for performance, offers water-proofing and dust proofing and utilizes regenerative braking to charge its lithium-ion battery pack on the go.

The Tata Nexon otherwise comes with a choice of 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel motors, priced between Rs 6.69 lakh and Rs 11.16 lakh.
