Tata is pinning its hopes on the Nexon, which is based on its new-generation platform that also underpins the Tiago and Tigor. The Nexon is a five-seater SUV, that will be powered by a choice of a 1.2-litre petrol, three-cylinder petrol engine, and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. Both these engines will come with six-speed manual transmissions. At a later date, Tata plans to offer automated manual transmission options on the Nexon as well.

It is a compact SUV with high-ground clearance and a sporty stance. It has ample interior space to seat five adults. It comes with three drive modes, city, eco and sport, with a Jaguar-inspired knob to select them. The centre-console as a premium looking stand-up infotainment screen, like the kind seen on premium German SUVs.

The Tata Nexon will be made at Tata’s plant in Ranjangaon, in Pune, which it shares with Fiat India.

The Quint will be driving the Tata Nexon on 27 July, so stay tuned for a full review of the Nexon soon.
