Indian motorcycle maker Royal Enfield has launched the Royal Enfield Himalayan ABS variant in India at Rs 1.79 lakh (ex-showroom).

The company had recently announced ABS for all its upcoming variants – a feature that was missing for a while now in many of the RE flagships. RE offers ABS in its exported models.

The Indian government has made it mandatory for motorcycles above 125cc to comes with ABS as standard from April 2019. This decision has forced all motorcycle makers to re-engineer their existing non-ABS models before the deadline.

Only last week, the company launched its first ABS equipped motorcycles in India – the Classic Signals 350 which has been priced at Rs 1.62 lakh. The new Himalayan 2018 variant is approximately Rs 11,000 more expensive than the older non-ABS variant.

In terms of specifications, the new Royal Enfield Himalayan ABS is powered by the same engine 411 cc air cooled single cylinder engine which pumps out 24.5 bhp of power and 32 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

It was only last year the the Himalayan added fuel injection to its system but ABS was given a miss.
