Tesla is probably the first name that comes to your mind when we talk about electric cars, and that’s understandable. However, that doesn’t mean nobody else is working on cars powered by electric motors that can match up to the fastest four-wheelers right now.
And that’s where you can think of this company called Rimac, which has made one of the fastest electric-powered supercar. How fast, you ask? Well, it got the better of a Lamborghini Aventador S. So yeah, it’s fast.
Meet Rimac Concept One
Rimac Automobili, a Croatia-based company, is behind the design and engineering of the Rimac Concept One. This electric supercar was part of The Grand Tour recently, where it went up against the Lamborghini and Honda in a drag race.
This electric supercar gets a full carbon-fibre body treatment, putting the weight of the car at 1900 kg, offering a ground clearance of up to 115 mm.
According to Rimac, only eight of the Concept One were made, and that number has come down to seven after a recent accident, that had the car up in flames (but more on that later). And due to this, Rimac will start working on another unit of the Concept One, which will be given back to its owner.
What Powers Rimac Concept One?
Rimac Automobili claims that the Concept One gets a unique powertrain that is divided into four sub-systems. Each system consists of a separate electric powertrain with an independent inverter, motor, and gearbox for each wheel of the car.
The use of this tech ensures that ear wheel of the Concept One can be controlled independently.
The car is pegged to offer more than 90 percent efficiency, full-fledged torque at zero speed, wide power-band, and no loud noises, the big plus-point about electric powertrain vehicles.
And Rimac Concept One is no slouch. The battery pack on this electric supercar has been designed to deliver 1MW of power during acceleration, and absorb 400 kW during braking.
You can drive the Concept One along for a range of 350 km on a single charge.
This translates into 1224 horsepower and a staggering 1600NM of torque. This raw power promises to take the Concept One to 355 km/hr, and clock 0-100 clicks in 2.5 seconds, which is nothing short of engineering miracle from the Croatian group.
But yes, the Concept One isn’t meant for everyone, and is definitely not coming to India anytime soon... unless someone goes there and manages to import one of these.
