Renault India plans to launch an all-new MPV in July 2019. It has put up a teaser image on its website. The new MPV will be called the Renault Triber, and according to reports it will be a seven-seat MPV.
Reports suggest the Renault Triber MPV will be built on a stretched platform of the Renault Kwid – the CMF-A platform. It will be an entry-segment MPV that is likely to be priced between Rs 5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh, positioned just below the Maruti Ertiga.
Renault-Nissan’s sister brand Datsun already sells a seven-seat MPV in the form of the Datsun Go Plus. The vehicle, however, isn’t one that sells in large numbers, clocking an average of 350 cars a month.
The Renault Triber has been spotted testing under camouflage in various parts of the country. It is likely to come with a 1-litre engine (like the Kwid), with a little more power on tap to handle the additional length and weight. It may also get a turbo-charged petrol motor at a later date.
The third row of the MPV will be removable to make way for more luggage space. It will have Renault’s touch-screen infotainment system on its top-end variants, with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It will get all the standard safety requirements under the new norms, which include two airbags, ABS, parking sensors, speed warnings and seat belt reminders on all variants.
The Renault Kwid is one of the best-selling cars for the Renault brand in India, clocking about 5,000 cars a month. Renault is hoping to ride on its success with this larger variant.
