New Delhi is one of the most polluted cities in the world and the Delhi government has offered a short-term fix – to ban the registration of diesel vehicles with over 2000cc engines between January and March, and to put in place an odd-even plan which will decrease the number of vehicles on the road for the first 15 days of January.

While the city struggles to wrap its head around these measures, Philips has proposed its own solution – air purifiers.

The government has taken a good step but it may take years or decades to actually improve the Air Quality Index.

So What Does it Propose?

An air purifier called GoPure Compact 110, that filters all the pollutants out of the air surrounding it.

Brilliant idea, no? Not really.

The device has been designed to work inside your 4-7 seater car and takes 15 minutes to purify all the air inside it by simply plugging into the cigarette lighter. It makes the air around you breathable.

As good as it may sound, it is quite an ironic solution since it is supposed to work inside running cars, which are already being held responsible for the alarming levels of pollution.

Yes, it might be good for the occupants of the car, but while you drive around with clean air inside your four-door cabin, your vehicle will continue to choke the city.

Okay, But How Can Air Purifiers Be Bad?

Before we tell you what is bad about an air purifier, you need to understand how they work.

Air purifiers filter polluted air and dispense clean, breathable air, but this is only till the time you have all the doors and windows of your car/house shut.

Once the filter is clogged, however, the air purifier becomes ineffective. Which means it’s time to buy a new one, and believe us, they are not cheap. And once you’ve bought a new filter, what do you do with the old one? Throw it away, obviously. And, in turn, add to the garbage of the city.

Also, pollution free air shouldn’t be just for those who can afford air purifiers, it should be a goal for everyone.

Exclusively available on Amazon, from the first week of January, GoPure will cost you Rs. 7,999 and will last you for 6-12 months. After that, you will need to buy a new filter that will cost you an extra 1500 bucks.
