Nissan has launched the Kicks SUV in India at prices starting at Rs 9.55 Lakh. The SUV comes in four variant trims – XL, XV, XV Premium and XV Option. It has a choice of either a 1.5 litre diesel engine or a 1.5 litre petrol engine.

The Kicks comes in 11 colour choices, four of which are dual-tone schemes (with a different colour for the roof). The Kicks is Nissan's attempt at a premium SUV to compete with the Hyundai Creta, besides its siblings the Renault Captur and Nissan Terrano. The Creta is the segment leader, clocking sales of over 10,500 a month on average, while Nissan Terrano and Renault Captur struggle with three-digit sales figures. Can the Kicks change the company's fortunes?

The Nissan Kicks launched in India is quite different from the one we checked out in Dubai a few months ago.

The Nissan Kicks comes with a 1.5 petrol engine option that puts out 105Bhp of power and 142Nm of torque with a five-speed manual transmission. The diesel Kicks has a tried-and-tested 1.5 litre diesel K9K diesel engine that puts out 108Bhp of power and 240Nm of torque with a six-speed manual transmission. They are all two-wheel drive variants only.

There is no automatic option as of now, which is something the company should think of soon, as there is fairly high demand for automatics in its price segment. Rivals like the Hyundai Creta offer six-speed automatic gearbox options on its petrol and diesel variants.

It has a claimed fuel efficiency of 14.23 Kmpl for the petrol model and 19.39 Kmpl for the diesel variant.

Nissan has loaded the top-end Kicks with a fair amount of equipment. In terms of safety all variants get ABS and two airbags, which is the law now. The XV and Premium spec get touch-screen infotainment systems, while the Premium also has a 360 degree camera.

It also gets cruise control, LED projector headlamps, DRLs, rain-sensing wipers and Nissan's Connect telematics system to keep you informed about the car's health and location.

While it has a pretty decent feature list, the question is, is it enough to make a difference in the segment? We will get you an in-depth review of the segment soon.
