At the moment the C-Class is available only with a 2-litre Euro-6 compliant diesel motor in two power outputs, but Mercedes says a petrol variant will follow soon, since the demand for petrol cars has picked up.

What's New with The 2018 Mercedes C-Class?

The thing with luxury cars is that new models follow in quick succession, in most cases almost every year, rendering the previous model outdated. And for those who want that snob-value, it does mean trading up to the newer model pretty quickly. That's why you will always find a rash of second-hand luxury cars in the market that have fairly low mileage on them.

Updated Looks

The 2018 Mercedes C-Class isn't an all-new car, and can be called a facelift at best, but the company claims it does have about 6,500 new parts! Ouch. Visually, there are subtle differences, but you will be hard-pressed to tell the difference.

The cars get new LED headlamps, while the C300 D model gets a multi-beam headlamp with automated beam altering technology (frankly, the lamps on the lower models do look even more catchy). The 18-inch alloy wheels get a new design.

Power Boost

Under the hood the C-Class comes with 1,950cc, four-cylinder diesel engine mated to a 9-Gtronic transmission. It has been given a boost in power. In the 220 D version it puts out 194 bhp of power and 400 Nm of torque, while in the 300 D version it puts out 245 bhp of power and 500 Nm of torque. Acceleration figures are 7.9 seconds for 0-100 kmph in the 220 D and 5.9 seconds in the 300 D.

New Infotainment

Not much has changed inside except for some of the wood panelling and the addition of a 10.25 inch infotainment touch screen. It now has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integrated into it. The C-Class comes with a panoramic sun-roof, three-zone climate control, leather upholstery and ambient lighting.

Overall, the Mercedes C-Class is that step up into the luxury sedan segment for buyers who want snob value. Most first-time luxury car buyers usually pick between a Mercedes C-Class, BMW 3-Series or Audi A4. That's why all three Germans keep updating these entry models to entice newer buyers.
