Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch a luxury crossover based on the Ertiga MPV. This crossover is likely to be called the Maruti Suzuki XL6 and will be sold through its premium Nexa dealership network (that also sells the Ciaz, Baleno, Ignis and S-Cross). The regular Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is sold through the Maruti Suzuki Arena dealership network.

The body shell is the same as that of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, but with subtle styling differences externally to distinguish it from the MPV. It will get a revised front with sleeker headlamps featuring daytime running lamps. new bumper and grille. The XL6 features body cladding all around to give it a more rugged look.

As the vehicle’s name suggests, it will be a six-seat vehicle only.

The big difference is on the inside. The interiors are likely to come in an all-black theme, with only six seats. The middle-row will feature two individual “captain” seats instead of the 60:40 bench that’s in the Ertiga MPV. The last row will continue to feature the forward facing bench, suitable for two people.

According to reports, the Maruti Suzuki XL6 will be sold in only two trim variants – the Alpha and Zeta trims. The Alpha variant will get some additional features such as cruise control, reverse camera and leather seats.

The Maruti Suzuki XL6 is likely to come only with a 1.5 litre petrol engine that will feature its start-stop smart hybrid system. It will have a 5-speed manual transmission and the option of a 4-speed automatic (like the Ciaz) as well.

It is likely to be priced at a premium to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. It doesn’t have a direct rival as such, but will appeal to buyers looking at a luxury MPV between Rs 10 lakh and 12 lakh.
