Maruti Suzuki has just launched the 2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R. This tall-boy hatchback now comes with two engine choices. Prices of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R start at Rs 4.19 lakh going up to Rs 5.69 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. The company claims it has already got over 12,000 bookings!
The Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R gets an all-new platform, which makes it lighter, yet tougher than before. It also gets a little more interior space that adds more practicality to this utilitarian hatch. It shares the Heartect platform on which other Maruti Suzuki cars like the Swift, Baleno, Dzire and Ertiga are based.
If you recall, Hyundai recently relaunched the Santro, which has been the Wagon-R's tradition rival from the year 1999, when the first-generation Wagon-R made an appearance. The Santro had debuted in 1998 and was quickly gaining popularity, but the Wagon-R managed to challenge and outsell it after that. The Wagon-R currently sells around 10,500 units every month on average.

What's New With The Wagon-R?
Besides getting an all-new platform, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R now gets a bigger engine choice. While the lower variants will continue to get the popular three-cylinder, 1-litre K-Series petrol engine that puts out 68PS of power and 90Nm of torque, the top-spec Z variants of the Wagon-R will get an even more powerful 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine shared with the Swift, Dzire, Baleno and Ignis. This motor puts out 83PS of power and 115Nm of torque, which should be pretty peppy in this light-weight hatchback.
Both engine choices will come with 5-speed manual transmissions and also offer the option of a 5-speed AMT (automated manual transmission), that behaves like a regular automatic transmission car.
The big question: Kitna deti hai? The 1-litre engine has a claimed fuel efficiency of 22.5 kmpl, while the 1.2-litre has a fuel efficiency of 21.5 Kmpl.
Besides the engine change, all variants of the Wagon-R now get airbags, ABS, reverse parking sensors, seat-belt warning, and speed warnings mandated by law. The top-spec Wagon-Rs get a 7-inch touchscreen "smart-play" infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, while the lower spec ones, get a regular music system. Powered mirrors, power windows, steering audio controls are also part of the package.
The car now gets more legroom, headroom and boot space. It now gets 341 litres of luggage space. Shoulder room has increased by 120 mm, and rear legroom by 10 mm. It also adds more storage spaces in the centre console and doors, adding a lot of practicality to this car. We will be bringing you a detailed review of the all-new Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R shortly.
