The Maruti Suzuki Eeco has been given a safety upgrade. This basic people & goods mover now gets a driver’s side airbag, ABS, parking sensors, and seat belt reminder for driver and passenger as standard fitment. The Eeco also gets speed warnings at 80 kmph.

The Eeco has been upgraded ahead of India’s new safety norms that take effect from April 2019, with Bharat NCAP crash tests also coming in by October 2019. The Maruti Suzuki Eeco is likely to replace the iconic Maruti Omni, which isn’t likely to pass upcoming crash tests. Incidentally, the Maruti Suzuki Eeco earlier scored zero stars in Global NCAP’s crash tests. However, that was because it didn’t have any airbags.

The Maruti Eeco is one of the cheapest four-wheelers one can buy. Therefore, it is fairly popular in the cab segment. It also has a cargo variant that is used extensively for intra-city goods transport and delivery services.

The Eeco is priced between Rs 3.41 lakh and Rs 4.47 lakh ex-showroom across variants. There are CNG and petrol options available. It is powered by a 1.2 litre petrol engine and has a five-speed manual transmission. While a couple of variants have airconditioning, that’s about all the creature comforts it offers. It doesn’t get even power-steering otherwise.
